WELCOME HOME

Chalawa was formed by John Forbes and Alex King in 1975 to back up touring reggae artists in the then-lively Toronto reggae scene, but the success of their instrumental albums Deepest and Darkest and Exodus Dub soon catapulted the group into the spotlight. This was followed by the hit instrumental Hop Skip and Jump, a chart-topper in Europe.

DEEPEST AND DARKEST
Recorded in 1975 at Springfield Sound in London Ontario Canada, featuring the rhythm section of Dopey Smith (drums) Leroy (Heptones) Sibbles (bass) Pete Weston (congos), Dick Smith and Mike Balm on sax and Trombone with John and Alex.

EXODUS DUB
Recorded 1976 at Kink Sound, Toronto Canada, this album featured John on bass with superstar drummer Anthony (Benbow) Creary on drums and percussion. This dub classic remains in production and is still charted on many college 'dub radio' programs.

THE FIRST TEN YEARS
Released in 1978, this album mirrored the Chalawa stage show. Featuring the vocals of Stranger Cole and The Callander Sisters, this album was recorded at Sound Canada, The Grange and Kink Sound with John and Alex sharing arrangement and production duties as well as performing on keyboards, piano, guitar, organ and percussion.

HOP SKIP AND JUMP
Released in 1979 following the hit single 'Hop Skip and Jump', this album was distributed in Canada by Generation Records and featured tracks compiled from sessions at Springfield Sound, Sound Canada, The Grange and Kink Sound.

CAPTURE LAND
Recorded at Sound Canada and Kink Sound and released in 1979, this compilation from the Chalawa Crew features Stranger Cole, The Callander Sisters, Johnny Osbourne and Collie Smith on vocals.
